with Rene Veugelers and Harriet Teeuw By Ruth Hirsch

Harriet and René brought a considerable amount of wisdom and presence to this course. For me, your approach was both grounded and gentle, and also very empowering. You both have a way of guiding that is attuned and expansive. I appreciate you capacities to create an atmosphere where everything is welcome, and where no judgment is placed on any part of the process. I have appreciated your ability to be clear without being directive and how you provided us with space for natural unfolding whilst still offering subtle nudges when needed.
What has stood out to me was your trust in the Focusing process itself. You’ve showed me that whilst you both have answers, answers are definitely inside me too. And you’ve helped me to uncover mine. It has felt like you’ve truly honoured our individual paths while holding a larger vision of growth for all of us. I have enjoyed how you’ve modelled being present and aware as teachers. Thank you to both of you. Jan

„The introductionary course is amazing. It helps me to gain a new perspective on Focusing: it becomes more dynamic, creative and concrete“ Marco

I just want you to know that my process, which began with you in summer, is still going on. It’s so wunderfull! The week in Nijeholdpade really started the ball rolling and changes are noticeable. Thank you both for your great job! Heel erg bedankt 🙂 And I really want to come next year again!

“I would like to say that I feel the workshop applies to anyone, not only those who work with children/students. It’s very helpful in all therapeutic contexts to be aware of nonverbal communication. To have such a depthful experience of one’s own nonverbal life acknowledged and supported, is rare and amplifies the need for more careful attention paid during client/patient sessions. I think your work is extraordinary and I hope that many many people get to experience it in time.”

“I really enjoyed your classes & seeing your lovely manner in teaching all of us! You made the learning so playful, fun, and accessible.” “I am touched of how you created and held such a playful, welcoming, tender, respectful space for us all in the Waveney room. It was such a blessing for me to spend the mornings on your course. Soooooooo glad I chose it!”

“I Ioved the fun elements which you brought into the teaching, the tender, respectful way you held the space for the whole group, and the depth and timing of the exercises. Also the way you led us through the different phases of our own gradual deepening into process and then coming-back-out was absolutely masterful!” “Every time I am amazed how you are able to create such a special atmosphere, which supports everybody to bring out the best they have inside … Thank you very much for staying true to yourself, which help us be more who we are.”

“The honest, open gentleness of the experience has truly transformed me from the inside. It’s like we are all meant for this kind of connection and all the vitality of childhood springs up with even more liveliness when we share time and space together”. “I particularly loved the chance to work on the child in me, and what has persisted, is my ability to use drawing as a focusing tool. Ever since the workshop, I use drawing when my feelings get into a jam; I bring out a pencil and some blank paper and allow the child in me to address the problem. This is helpful to me and has provided me with some new insights”.

“I have done some art therapy training in Manchester years ago and really love wholebody focusing, dance, story telling, ritual and symbols so it was so lovely to have these threads woven together in your workshops. They are so skilled and yet how they engage feels very natural and intuitive. I felt at home with this way of working”.

“A lot of that comes from your modelling – of that way of being with children – which was so inspirational, as well as from the focussing excercises we did. I am sure it has helped in being with my own children at times.” “From René’s very presence which is very tender, gentle, patient, skillful and joyful and firm, you will get a good sense of what it means to embody a Focusing attitude with children.”

Thank you thank you thank you for everything you and Harriet put into the whole experience. I feel blessed and privileged to be have had this 🙏

It is hard to condense into a couple of sentences the experience.  I would recommend the course as I wanted to learn about how I introduce focusing to teenagers.  I learned how to do this at the same time as being with my own inner child.  I felt the inner smile and played, and listened and began to see my next steps as a person and a therapist.

With the train Hurtling through a foreign flat endless land, I felt an uncomfortable tight sensation in my stomach that something was not right. My thoughts were worried and questioning as one may expect;“Where on earth was I? Where was I going? What was I stepping into? Am I ready for this?!”
These thoughts & the tight sensation soon settled and with that a wonderful experience began. Harriet & Rene’s ‘Being seriously playful’ workshop was an inner and outer adventure. Those in attendance were of a similar kind to me- curious, exploring, gentle, playful, kind and deeply attuned to their inner world. Held with gentle presence and a sincerely welcoming space by Harriet and Rene, 5 days of wonder, connection and expression followed. The motto of the 5 days encapsulated it (as much as words can!)- “ER HOEFT NITS”. Initially, I mentally attempted to translate literally. ‘Nothing is required of you’. It was only through being there and experiencing ‘ER HOEFT NITS’ over the 5 days did I really know the meaning. A whole new bodily experience of nothing is needed.

Harriet and Rene’s Dynamic Expressive Focusing approach has been refined and attuned through their work with children and their vast experience as therapists and trainers. Their approach is deeply experiential, creative and I felt that it offered me an open, enriching and safe path that allowed my being and body to unfold in wonderful unknown ways. After 5 days, with friends made and memories for life, I boarded the train on my journey and I felt more at home in my experience and welcomed my felt-sense with the spirit of the BSP workshop in my being.
